A 1968 Ford Mustang with just over 1,000 miles on it has sold for $60,000 on Bring a Trailer. This figure likely represents a record amount for a six-cylinder first-gen Mustang. The car features a 200-cube six-cylinder engine and an automatic transmission, with few options on the order form.
The car’s story begins with the original owner purchasing it at Peffley’s Ford in Dayton, Ohio, reportedly to one-up her mother, who owned a Maverick. However, this claim is questionable since the Maverick was not available when the car was sold. The vehicle was driven for one month before being parked, and it changed hands in 2025 with just over 1,000 miles on the odometer.
The car appears to be basically untouched since it rolled out of the dealership in mid-August 1968, with only a new battery and tires added. This makes it a “survivor” in the eyes of enthusiasts, and one of the lowest-mileage survivor Mustangs on the planet. The car’s spec is not particularly spectacular, but it does feature an attractive Highland Green paint job, famously worn by the fastback in Bullitt.

According to the Marti Report, the car is one of 50,000-odd Mustangs with its engine, transmission, and body style, and one of 17,719 with its paint combination. The car was uncovered in Ohio in 2025 by automotive historian Dennis Collins, who explained its story on his YouTube channel.
The Mustang was listed on Bring a Trailer by Richard Rawlings of Gas Monkey Garage in late October. His winning $60,000 bid was the first and only one he’d ever placed on BaT, completely shutting out the prior 18 bids for the ‘Stang.
Classic-car insurer Hagerty estimates that a ’68 Mustang hardtop with a six-cylinder and automatic transmission will typically sell in “driver condition” for between $17,000 and $23,000. In flawless mint condition, the price range is between $35,000 and $39,800. The fact that this Mustang sold for 50% more than even the high end of that range shows the high demand for survivor cars.
