BMW India introduced the i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB) model domestically, priced from Rs 79.60 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric executive sedan is assembled at the BMW Group’s Chennai facility, marking the brand’s inaugural locally built EV sedan in the country.

Vehicle deliveries have begun nationwide. The i5 LWB is available only in the eDrive 35L M Sport trim, with a special First Edition also released at the identical price point.

According to BMW, the entire batch of 99 First Edition units sold out prior to the formal launch. The i5 LWB is driven by an 81.6 kWh battery coupled with a single electric motor that drives the rear axle.

Maximum power reaches 272 PS, while peak torque is rated at 410 Nm. These figures enable a top speed of 195 km/h and a 0-to-100 km/h acceleration in 6.7 seconds.

BMW states the vehicle can travel up to 669 km according to the MIDC cycle. It accommodates 160 kW DC fast charging, with the manufacturer asserting that charging from 10 % to 80 % takes roughly 33 minutes.

The car’s dimensions are 5,175 mm long, 2,156 mm wide and 1,520 mm tall, with the standout feature being its 3,105 mm wheelbase, which defines the long-wheelbase version.

The manufacturer emphasizes the roomy rear compartment, featuring contoured rear seats, improved padding and a 31-degree torso angle. Additionally, the model is equipped with adaptive rear-axle air suspension, higher ground clearance and 20-inch M alloy wheels.

BMW notes that the suspension is tuned for Indian road surfaces, prioritizing comfort without sacrificing the marque’s dynamic character. Inside, the i5 LWB features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster alongside a 14.9-inch central touchscreen running BMW OS 8.5.

The system includes BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant together with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Further amenities comprise a panoramic glass roof, four-zone climate control, front-seat ventilation and BMW’s crystal-effect Crafted Clarity controls.

Standard equipment also includes a 17-speaker, 655-watt audio system from Bowers & Wilkins. For safety, the car offers 8 airbags plus a suite of ADAS functions such as Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane-Change Warning, Front and Rear Collision Warning, Parking Assistant Professional, Remote Parking and Reverse Assist.

BMW provides a standard warranty of eight years or 1.6 lakh km for the high-voltage battery.
