Royal Enfield has launched the Himalayan 440 in Ladakh, priced at Rs 2.29 lakh (ex-showroom). The motorcycle marks 10 years of the Himalayan nameplate, blending the original design with a larger 443 cc engine and updated features. This launch, at the inaugural Himalayan Basecamp, celebrates a decade of the Himalayan’s legacy, which has seen over 3,20,000 units sold globally since its inception.
Power and Performance
The Himalayan 440 is powered by a 443 cc, single-cylinder engine, delivering 26 PS at 6250 rpm and 34 Nm at 4,000 rpm. Paired with a six-speed gearbox, it offers improved low-speed handling and relaxed highway cruising. Royal Enfield claims a 4.5% increase in power and a 6.5% increase in torque compared to the Himalayan 411. The revised gear ratios enhance low-speed maneuverability and provide a more composed ride at higher speeds, making it versatile for both urban and off-road conditions.
The engine features an 81 mm bore, 86 mm stroke, electronic fuel injection, and a wet multi-plate clutch. Enhancements include improved NVH levels and a 0.75 kg reduction in clutch lever effort.

Design and Handling
Retaining the original silhouette, the Himalayan 440 features a half-duplex split-cradle frame, 41 mm telescopic front forks with 200 mm travel, and a linkage-type rear monoshock with 180 mm travel. It rides on 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels, with 220 mm of ground clearance and a low center of gravity for off-road capability.
The motorcycle has an 800 mm seat height, 1460 mm wheelbase, 15-litre fuel tank, and a kerb weight of 199 kg. Braking is handled by a 300 mm front disc and 240 mm rear disc, with dual-channel ABS and a switchable rear ABS for off-road use. The braking system, combined with the lightweight design, ensures confident stopping power across various terrains.
