Geely has announced its fifth generation ‘Geely Smart Charging Station’, which delivers a peak power output of 2,250kW. This new technology has been unveiled alongside the Geely group’s ‘Next-Gen Ultra Short Blade Battery’. The Geely Smart Charging Station utilizes ElectricGeely Smart Charging, which leverages AI and a 2,250kW plug to enable ultra-rapid top-ups, outpacing BYD’s 1,500kW ‘Flash Charging’ technology.
In real-world tests, the charger was able to charge a Lynk & Co 10 and a Zeekr 001 from 10 to 70 per cent in just 4m 30s. Charging from 10 to 97 per cent took only 8m 40s. This rapid charging capability is made possible by the advanced technology integrated into the Geely Smart Charging Station, allowing drivers to quickly top up their vehicles.
The new battery reduces heat generated during charging by 10 per cent. Geely has also worked with StepFun to develop a ‘smart energy AI model’ that predicts battery temperatures up to 30 seconds in advance. This predictive capability enables the charging system to adjust its power output, ensuring optimal charging conditions and minimizing the risk of overheating.
This model adjusts the charging power to keep the battery’s average temperature below 55°C while plugged in. A new ‘end-to-end five-point liquid-cooling system’ also helps to manage temperatures, providing a full cooling solution that encompasses the charging station energy-storage battery, the charging pile, the cable, the charging port on the car, and the battery pack. This advanced cooling system plays a key role in maintaining the battery’s health and performance.
Geely states that this technology, combined with the AI charging management software, gives the battery a longer life by 20 per cent. The company, which owns Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus, is investing in electric vehicle technology. By developing and integrating these advanced technologies, Geely aims to enhance the overall efficiency, performance, and longevity of its electric vehicles, ultimately providing a better driving experience for its customers. The Geely Smart Charging Station and Next-Gen Ultra Short Blade Battery are key components of the company’s electric vehicle strategy, and their capabilities demonstrate Geely’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the automotive industry.
